Letter to The Times changed beyond recognition

A letter in The Times signed by board members of Veterans for Britain among others incorrectly made it appear that signatories were calling for a referendum rematch.

Nothing could be further from the truth and the changes should never have been made.

The error arose after the letter was submitted to The Times and editing removed essential words.

The phrase “…if [the PM] lacks the grip to deliver the will of the People’s Vote 2016, then surely now is the time to hand over..”

…became…

“…if [the PM] lacks the grip to deliver a People’s Vote, then surely now is the time to hand over..”

The first version clearly shows that the signatories are referring to the referendum in 2016 as ‘the People’s Vote 2016’. See pictures below.

The signatories to the letter, including Major-General Julian Thompson CB, Rear-Admiral Roger Lane-Nott and Professor Gwythian Prins, do not back the idea of a referendum re-match, which is deeply desired by the EU Commission.
